Technology offer : Fish farming with an Integrated Recycling System

Technology's description

This invention concerns a fish farming closed system which recreates a fish-plankton artificial ecosystem, enabeling a total recycling of water and effluents.

This closed system operates in clear, brackish, marine water.

It includes:

  • Several intensive rearing tanks within fish species will be feed. Effluents which come from thoses tanks, go to a lagoon (sewage) pond to feed detritus eater fishies and zooplankton.

  • 2 sewage ponds, where organic matter is degraded and mineral effluents involve a phytoplankton production. Thoses two steps represent the main cycle.

  • 1 phytoplankton regulator pond, where algae biomass is consumed by zooplankton. Itrepresents the secondary cycle placed as a branch circuit to the principal one.

The production of tilapia as Oreochromis niloticus or any other adaptable specie is associated to a detritus eater specie as Sarotherodon melanotheron in the digestors tanks.

This system is used with commercial purposes in Senegal. 



Advantages

  • System offering substantial savings in water, only evaporation being compensated (90% economy in water) compared with other breeding closed system
  • Large reduction in the daily intake of artificial feed (a 2/3 decrease)
  • System that yields an intrinsic production of phytoplankton biomass and zooplankton as a supplementary foodstuff
  • Low environmental impact due to system recycling waste
