Technology offer : Detection test of Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. allii in Alliaceae

Technology's description

The bacterium Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. allii causes in Alliaceae such as onions, garlic, leeks, chives, lesions on aerial plant tissue. Bulbs shrink and cause yield losses ranging from 10-50%.

This assay is able to detect all strains of this bacterium. It is about three times more sensitive than conventional methods with a detection sensitivity of one among 30000 seeds. It is also a faster method because the bacterium do not need to be isolated. The extracted DNA is directly detected by PCR.

This method will be proposed as an European reference method to the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO), which registered the bacterium on its quarantine list in 2009.
